Full property description

Maison de Grandmere is a delightfully converted 4 storey village house in Pouzols, a Languedoc-Roussillon village where the clock chimes are all that disturb the peace. It is surrounded by vineyards and some lovely walks and peaceful countryside, yet the Mediterranean Sea and other attractions are not too far away.

You’ll enter the house from the narrow village street into the living/dining room, with the kitchen at the end. There is an open, working fireplace, with logs provided in the winter. The living room boasts a day bed that converts into a double bed or 2 singles, a dining table and chairs. The kitchen is well-equipped, with a 4-ring stove, dishwasher, fridge, and microwave with a convection oven.

Enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep in one of the two lovely bedrooms: A double bedroom on the middle floor has an additional small child's bed, and there is also another double bedroom on the mezzanine up top. Both rooms sport ensuite WCs and the shared bathroom is fitted with a shower and WC.

On the top floor there is another sitting room with a TV and DVD-player and a large sofa, plus an additional fridge with a freezer, useful for drinks to enjoy after a long day of exploring!

This room opens out onto a delightful sunny terrace with a table and chairs, an electric BBQ and a sun bed – take in the delightful views over the village roof tops and mountains beyond while you forget the stress of everyday life.

Cleaning, linen and towels are included.

Public parking is available on site, smoking is allowed outside only.

Area description

Pouzols-Minervois in the Aude region is a friendly and pretty village, within reach of the Mediterranean but not so close as to suffer excessive summer tourism. The village is famous for its wonderful wines (the various Domaines and the Cave Cooperative), its fine olives and rural honey – a real gem of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

With so much unfenced agriculture, the countryside is extensively available to pedestrians and bikers. Close by is the Grand Randonnée 77, a pathway which links into the vast labyrinth of major paths which criss-cross France, and even head into Santiago de Compostela.

Narbonne is the nearest major town, and is worth a visit: It was the capital of Roman Gaul, and also the first place outside Italy where the Romans grew grapes. Just 5 minutes away, you’ll find the Canal du Midi, and there is good fishing in the rivers nearby, especially at Bize. The lake at Homps (10 mins away) has sailing and swimming, and the area boasts numerous canal-side bistros and restaurants.

When hunger strikes, you can buy bread from the 'bread lady' in the village, there are markets on every day, numerous vans call to sell fruit, vegetables and meat and the supermarket is just 10 minutes from the house.
